Playing on a sponsor’s invite, England’s Matthew Jordan carded a course-record 63 on a cold and rainy Thursday in Southport to take a two-shot lead after day one of the Betfred British Masters.
Making just his 12th start as a Tour pro, the 23-year old from nearby Holyake finished his first day at Hillside with nine birdies against just one bogey en route to the 18-hole marquee spot of 8-under par, two shots clear of Sweden’s Marcus Kinhult (65).

“You never quite expect it. I knew I had been playing quite well and just from the get-go it started perfectly and from then on I just kept it going. I just tried to shoot as low as I could because I thought the guys out there, they are good as well.”
