Hometown favorite Jordan Spieth got off to a terrific start in the opening round of the 2019 AT&T Byron Nelson. The 25-year old Texan made birdie on the par-5 first hole, and then added four straight gains starting on No. 4 to rocket to the top of the scoreboards at Trinity Forest Golf Club.
The slumping superstar was 5-under par through just seven holes.
But the hope for a slump-busting vintage performance came crashing down when Spieth sprayed his tee shot on the par-4 9th hole, leading to a double-bogey-6. After that, he never really got back in the groove, and played his home-nine to even-par 35, offsetting a pair of birdies with two bogeys.
For the day, Spieth finished with seven birdies, two bogeys, one double, and eight pars. He hit 12 of 14 fairways, and 15 of 18 greens.
