Phil Mickelson shot a second-round 64 and will enter Wednesday’s final round of the Schwab Cup Series at Ozarks National with a four-shot lead over Rod Pampling and Tim Petrovic.
Mickelson finished his second day at the spectacular Ozarks National with a single bogey against eight birdies, highlighted by six gains over an eight-hole stretch (Nos. 5-12).
“Well, I really enjoy playing the golf course. I hit some good shots, made some good birdies, but I want to work on a couple of things,” said Mickelson, whose 125 total is the second-lowest 36-hole score in Tour history.
“I hit a couple of drives that I hung a little bit left that I want to work on. If I can drive it a little bit more aggressively, I think I can make a few more birdies and be hard to catch.”
Pampling and Petrovic carded matching 65s and were T2 on 13-under par, one shot clear of Rocco Mediate (66), who was alone in fourth-place on 12 under.
One further back was K.J. Choi, who shot 66 to sit solo-fifth on 11-under par.
