Niall Kearney shot a 4-under 68 on Friday and will enter weekend of the BMW International Open with a two-shot lead.
The Irishman finished with a scorecard showing 12 pars, five birdies and one bogey to reach 11-under par.
“I just feel really fresh,” said Kearney. “I’ve been home the last couple of weeks. Plenty of time to rest, I was travelling quite a bit prior to that, playing. It was great to get home, recharge and get back out.
“It’s a great opportunity. This year has been great for me. I’m getting lots of starts in nice tournaments. I’ve got to try and take the opportunities as well. I got off to a decent start in Spain in the Canaries, I just need to march on from there.”
Norway’s Viktor Hovland (67) and Austrian Bernd Wiesberger (68) were T2 on 9 under, alongside Spaniard Jorge Campillo (68), Japan’s Masahiro Kawamura (70) and Frenchman Adrien Saddier (69).
One further back was South African Shaun Norris (69) and Pablo Larrazabal (70) who were tied for seventh-place on 8-under par.
Hame favorite Martin Kaymer (67) and Louis Oosthuizen (67) headlined a group of seven players tied for ninth-place on 7 under.
