Pro Golfer Shoots 20-Over, Misses Cut, Gets Engaged

Kasey Petty made her pro debut at CordeValle during the 71st U.S. Women’s Open Championship. Unfortunately Petty’s professional career didn’t exactly get off to a flying start.

The 22 year-old from Groveport, Ohio failed to break 80 in either of the first two rounds, and finished one stroke out of last place with a 20-over par.

But all was not lost. To cheer her up, Petty’s boyfriend (and now fiance) Jacob Miller proposed to the newly minted pro golfer.

Surrounded by family, friends and some FOX cameras, Miller got on his knee and dropped the Big Q.

And despite struggling in her first pro event, Petty says she couldn’t be happier.

“I didn’t play very well, but this kind of makes up for all of that,” said Petty. “This is everything I could’ve dreamed of.”

And if you’re going to get engaged after a round of golf, CordeValle is a pretty good place to be.
