Robert Streb opened with an 11-under 61 at The Summit Club to secure a one-shot lead after round one of The CJ CUP.

The 34-year-old Oklahoma native finished his first day in Las Vegas with 10 birdies and one eagle against just a single bogey en route to the day’s low round.

“Yeah, it was going really well. Obviously hit a few close and the putts were going in,” said Streb, who led the field in putting. “I’ve never had a start like that, so it was kind of fun.

“Slowed down a little I guess in the middle, but it was a really, really good round.”

One back was Keith Mitchell, who shot a bogey-free 62 which featured eight pars and 10 birdies, highlighted by five straight on hole Nos. 3-7, to reach 10 under.

“I mean, I hate to say everything, but everything clicked. I felt a lot better about my swing. I was striking the ball better,” said Mitchell.

“Really spent a lot of time the last four or five days working on it. I felt a little rusty coming off from the offseason, I can attribute that to a lot more fishing and not as much golf.”

Harry Higgs was two further back on 8-under par, one clear of a trio at 7 under, headlined by European Ryder Cup teammates Sergio Garcia and Viktor Hovland.

Rounding out the top-10 leaders was a star-studded pack of eight more players at 6 under, including Ian Poulter, Rickie Fowler, Jordan Spieth, Hideki Matsuyama and Scottie Scheffler, among others.
