Round-3 Scores and Stats: Sentry Tourney of Champs

A look at the scores and stats after round three of the 2019 Sentry Tournament of Champions, where Gary Woodland continues to lead by three strokes.

The 34-year old Kansan got off to a strong start on Saturday at Kapalua with a birdies on Nos. 4, 5 and 9 to turn in 33 and reach 15 under. But after a five-hole stretch of four pars and a bogey, Woodland found himself tied for the lead with Rory McIlroy at 14 under. He picked up the pace down the stretch, though – highlighted by an eagle on the par-5 15th and a closing birdie on No. 18 to reach 17 under, good enough to maintain a three-shot lead.

In terms of stats, Woodland has been good at pretty much everything this week – leading the field with 20 birdies, while ranking 3rd in driving accuracy (39 of 45) and 4th in both greens-hit (46 of 54) and putts per GIR (1.696).

His playing partner for Sunday’s final round will be Rory McIlroy who shot a bogey-free 68 on moving day to reach 14 under. The Northern Irishman has been deadly accurate into greens this week, hitting a field-best 48 of 54, but has been less so off the tee, where he’s ranked 30th (in a field of 33).

Through 54 holes, Woodland leads the field in overall accuracy, as he’s hit 85 of 99 targets, good for a 85.9% hit-rate, edging Justin Thomas who’s at 84.8% with 84 target hits.

Of the six (6) players who’ve hit at least 80% of their total targets through 54 holes, all are well in the red and sit in the top-35 percentile in the standings.

1. Gary Woodland – 85/99, 85.9% (-17, 1)
2. Justin Thomas – 84/99, 84.8% (-10, T6)
3. Ian Poulter – 83/99, 83.8% (-6, T13)

5. Jon Rahm – 80/99, 80.8% (-9, T8)
5. Charles Howell III – 80/99, 80.8% (-6, T13)
