Russell Henley scored 67 on Saturday at Waialae Country Club and will enter the finale of the Sony Open with a two-shot lead over Hideki Matsuyama.

Henley, the 36-hole leader, got off to a slow with five pars and a bogey on his first six holes. He heated up though with three birdies on his next five holes to move back to the top of the leaderboard. A bogey on No. 13 was offset by two closing birdies on Nos. 15 and 17 to reach 18-under par.

“Yeah, I figured it wouldn’t be quite as easy as the first two days. It’s just not how golf works typically,” said Henley. “I wasn’t planning on making bogeys, but definitely wasn’t expecting to shoot 8-under again.

“But at the same time I felt really good about my game all day. I never really got too nervous or too ahead of myself. I feel like I stayed in every shot, one shot at a time, and had really good focus the whole day.

“I’m pleased, and just tried to do the best I could.”

Matsuyama, who will be paired with Henley on Sunday, reached 16 under with a bogey-free round of 63. The Masters champ credited his putting for the day’s low round.

“Probably putting was strong point today,” said Matsuyama. “Even my missed putts found the hole… I was lucky today.”

Matt Kuchar (67) was among a group of four players tied on 14-under par.
