Sentry Tourney of Champs: Round-One Scores and Stats

0

A look at the scores and stats after round one of the 2019 Sentry Tournament of Champions, where Kevin Tway leads Dustin Johnson, Justin Thomas and Gary Woodland by a single stroke.

Tway (66) carded the day’s low round thanks in large part to his ability to avoid trouble. The Oklahoma native was one of only two players (the other being Marc Leishman) to make his way around Kapalua without a single bogey.

STAT FOCUS: TOTAL-HIT TARGETS

For the day, the 30-year old Tway hit 11 fairways and 15 greens, checking in with a total-hit number of 26, good for 78.8% – within the top-25 percentile.

Thomas, who made five birdies on his final seven holes to secure a T2 spot, checked in as the day’s top sharp shooter, hitting 14 (of 15) fairways and 17 (of 18) greens, while racking up a field-best 93.9% total hit. Bubba Watson (-3, T12) was next with 90.9% total-hit (13 greens and 17 fairways).

Of the seven (7) players who hit at least 80% of their total targets, all but Ted Potter Jr. were 3-under par or better.

1. Justin Thomas – 31/33, 93.9% (-6, T2)
2. Bubba Watson – 30/33, 90.9% (-3, T12)
3. Gary Woodland – 28/33, 84.8% (-6, T2)
3. Ted Potter Jr. – 28/33, 84.8% (+2, T28)
5. Patton Kizzire – 27/33, 81.8% (-4, T6)
5. Rory McIlroy – 27/33, 81.8% (-4, T6)
5. Webb Simpson – 27/33, 81.8% (-3, T12)

The day’s least accurate ball striker was Keegan Bradley who hit less than half of his targets (10 of 15 fairways and just 6 of 18 greens), resulting in a paltry 48.5% total-hit number. Bradley was also tied for last-place on the scoreboard, alongside Satoshi Kodaira, at 4-over par 77.
