At the International Series Macau, Sergio Garcia faced a defining moment in his bid to qualify for the 2025 Open Championship at Royal Portrush.
On the final hole, the 18th at Macau Golf and Country Club, Garcia needed a three-foot birdie putt to finish tied for third with Jason Kokrak, which would have secured his spot via a tiebreaker.
Despite a strong final-round 65, Garcia missed the short putt, settling for par and a solo fourth-place finish at 16-under. This allowed Kokrak, along with winner Carlos Ortiz (22-under) and runner-up Patrick Reed (19-under) — all LIV Golf players — to claim the three available Open spots from the Asian Tour event.

The miss cost Garcia a chance to return to his “favorite major,” where he’s been a two-time runner-up (2007, 2014), after missing the last two years. He now must rely on his LIV Golf standings (currently third) or local qualifying to make the July 17-20 event in Northern Ireland.
