J.T. Poston rode a late scoring blitz to post 65 and secure a share of the halftime lead alongside Matti Schmid at the Shriners Children’s Open.
Poston’s round got off to a sluggish start and was just 1 under on the day standing on the 13th tee. But a birdie on the par-5 14th was followed by a birdie-eagle-birdie run on Nos. 15, 16 and 17 to reach 13 under.
“You know, I feel like I hit a lot of good shots and some of them just haven’t quite gotten close,” said Poston, who owns two PGA Tour wins.
“I mean, I’m kind of like you, I’m a little bit just trying to stay patient and hit good shots.
“Feel like I hit a lot of good shots exactly how I wanted to and just hadn’t got the putter going.
“Nice to hit that really good one in to 9 and make an eagle and just keep plugging along.”

Schmid, a 26-year-old from Germany, shot a flawless round of 65 and is the only player without a bogey through 36 holes.
“Yeah, I was just very good off the tee so far this week,” said Schmid, when asked about being bogey-free at halftime.
“Hit many fairways, and, yeah, was able to hit some decent iron shots.
“I didn’t miss too many greens. That was the key so far I would say.”
Rico Hoey (66) and Norman Xiong (65) shared third on 12 under, one clear of Ryan McCormick (66), who rounded out the top 5 on the board.
Overnight leader Taylor Pendrith struggled to a 71 and dropped back to T6 alongside Harris English (65), Scott Piercy (67), and Alejandro Tosti (66).
