J.J. Spaun has taken the lead at the Sony Open in Hawaii after completing 54 holes, shooting a 5-under 65 in the third round at Waialae Country Club in Honolulu.
Spaun’s performance has positioned him at 13-under 197 for the tournament, resulting in a one-shot lead over Stephan Jaeger (62), Eric Cole (67), and Patrick Fishburn (68).
“Yeah, just got off to a pretty solid start,” said Spaun. “Made a few pars on the first couple holes and then a nice birdie on 3.
“Just kind of took what it gave me and took the opportunities when they came and capitalized on it. It was a pretty solid round overall.”
The 65 marks Spaun’s best score of the tournament, putting him in contention for a second PGA Tour victory, following his win at the 2022 Valero Texas Open.
The longtime Hawaiian tournament, known for its tight leaderboards, has 15 players within three shots of the lead.
