According to a source who travels in the LIV Golf orbit, “up to 10 big-name players will be added” to the Greg Norman-led tour, ahead of the Portland event, set for June 30-July 2 at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club.
These unnamed players are in addition to Bryson De Chambeau and Patrick Reed, who announced today that they plan to play in LIV Golf events.
“One of the names will shock the golf world,” wrote the source via email, saying, “he’s a current top-10 player,” while two others are “sitting inside the top 20.”
Other marquee names include recent major winners whose games have tailed off some but are “still considered featured stars… who qualified for the U.S. Open.”
The players are said to be waiting to defect until after the U.S. Open “to avoid the media sh*tstorm.”
The source also said that many of the players are “pretty shocked that the LIV Golf thing is actually legit” and “just stunned how small and boring the PGA Tour now looks,” with one player commenting, “anyone but (Greg) Norman would have crumbled under the media pressure – yet he just plowed ahead. He’s a lot like (former President) Trump.”
Update: A Boston area source just emailed me and said, “expect every major player to tee it up for LIV Golf’s Boston event,” set for September 2-4 at The International.
