The 148th Open Championship gets underway Thursday morning at Royal Portrush Golf Club in Northern Ireland. The R & A has released the tee times for the opening two rounds, and so let’s take a look at the featured pairings.
Darren Clarke, the 2011 Open Champion, will do the honors in his native homeland. The Northern Irishman will tee off at 6:35 am (local time) alongside Indian amateur James Sugrue and American Charley Hoffman.
As a major there are about 14 or so marquee pairings, but we’ll look at the top four.
In one morning marquee grouping, defending champion Francesco Molinari of Italy will be joined by American Bryson DeChambeau and Aussie Adam Scott. They tee off at 9:58 am, and will be followed at 10:09 by a threesome featuring native son Rory McIlroy, U.S. Open winner Gary Woodland, and Englishman Paul Casey.
In an early afternoon pairing, a threesome of 2018 Ryder Cuppers will feature American Justin Thomas alongside Englishman Tommy Fleetwood and Dane Thorbjorn Olesen. The trio tees off at 12:53 pm, just ahead of world No. 1 Brooks Koepka, South African Louis Oosthuizen, and Indian Shubhankar Sharma, who go off at 1:04 pm.
Finally, in the late afternoon, Tiger Woods will be joined by 2018 Ryder Cup partner Patrick Reed, and Englishman Matt Wallace. They go off at 3:10 pm, just ahead of a threesome headlined by Spaniard star Jon Rahm, along with top-ranked Americans Patrick Cantlay and Matt Kuchar.
