Due to years of domestic warring between loyalists (UK) and nationalists (Ireland), The Open hadn’t been played in Northern Ireland since 1951. So it was fitting to have a native son of the South raise the Claret Jug on the North’s most iconic course, cheered on by fans from all across the island.

Shane Lowry, of county Offaly, shot a final-round 72 to win the 2019 Open Championship by six strokes.

Lowry finished his final day at a wet and windy Royal Portrush with five bogeys against four birdies to finish at 15-under par 269, six shots clear of Tommy Fleetwood (74).

It was Lowry’s maiden major title, and second career PGA Tour victory.

This week’s Winner’s Circle is powered by Titleist Pro V1 Golf Balls.
