After day one of the Women’s Golf Competition at the Tokyo Olympics, Madelene Sagstrom was atop the leaderboard with a 5-under 66.
The Swede finished her opening round with a bogey-free scorecard, featuring 13 pars and five birdies.
One back was world No.1 Nelly Korda who shot a 4-under 67. The American overcame two bogeys on her first four holes by finishing her final 14 holes bogey-free along with five birdies.
“I’m hoping I’m in total control, it’s golf at the end of the day,” said Korda, who is making her Olympics debut.
“I kind of sprayed some shots out to the right on my last two holes with my irons, but you’re going to have that, you’re going to lose a little bit of concentration.”
She was tied for second with Aditi Ashok of India.
Rounding out the top-5 leaders were Carlota Ciganda, Matilda Castren and Jin Young Ko, who were T4 on 3 under.
Danielle Kang, Sei Young Kim and Inbee Park headlined a logjam of eight players tied for seventh on 2 under.
Americans Jessica Korda (71) and Lexi Thompson (72) were well off the pace after day one.
