Ashun Wu carded a 7-under 65 on day two at Genzon Golf Club, and will head into the weekend with a two-shot lead at the Volvo China Open.
The home hero, who won here in 2015, offset one bogey with eight birdies en route to a two-day score of 13-under par, two clear of Finn Tapio Pulkkanen (68), and three ahead of Spaniard Jorge Campillo (69).
“It was a great day again today,” said Wu, who entered Shenzhen with just one top-40 on the season. “I made eight birdies and one bogey, I hit a lot of quality shots today and made a lot of birdies. I’m very happy.
“During the season break, I took some time off to evaluate my game. I made some swing changes and it got better and better.
“I enjoy playing at home. It’s a great week as I have my family and friends here with me. It’s a good feeling.”
Frenchman Benjamin Hebert (68) was next at 9-under par.
A six-player logjam rounded out the top 5, headlined by another Frenchman in Victor Dubuisson, who carded a second straight 68 to reach 8-under par.
