Erik van Rooyen produced 16 points on Sunday to claim his maiden PGA Tour title at the Barracuda Championship.
The 31-year old South African finished his final round at Tahoe Mountain Club’s Old Greenwood course with just one bogey offset by six birdies and an eagle to reach 50 points, five points clear of runner-up Andrew Putnam.
“Everything,” said Van Rooyen, when asked what the win means to him. “I mean, it’s everybody’s dream to play here. And if you look at my career, like you said, started out in South Africa, won there. Won on Challenge Tour Europe. And now here, I’m over the moon.”
With the victory, Van Rooyen receives a two-year PGA Tour membership/exemption while earning $630,000 and 300 FedExCup points. He will now move be eligible for the big-money FedExCup playoffs.
