Over 54 holes of golf at a meticulous and challenging Trump National in Bedminster, New Jersey, Henrik Stenson turned the clock back, posting rounds of 64, 69 and 69 to claim a two-shot victory in his debut start in the LIV Golf league.
It was Stenson’s first individual victory since the 2019 Hero World Challenge (Tiger’s Bahama event), and his first win in a tour sanctioned event since the 2017 Wyndham Championship.
The 46-year-old Swede started Sunday holding a three-shot lead and after birdies on Nos. 1 and 5 he was up five shots and never looked back.
“I’m super-proud of the focus I managed to have this week,” said Stenson. “I’ve been working really hard to get my game back in shape, and it’s certainly going in the right direction as we know now.”
For his maiden LIV Golf title, Stenson took home a check for $4 million while adding another $375,000 for being part of the Majesticks GC which finished runner up to the 4 Aces, captained by Dustin Johnson, in the team competition.
