Following a Friday morning finish to round one, K.H. Lee found himself atop the scoreboards at the WM Phoenix Open. The 30-year old Korean opened with a 6-under 65 but slept on a one-shot deficit to rookie Sahith Theegala who was 7 under through 16 holes.
Theegala, who hadn’t made a bogey through 16 on Thursday, proceeded to bogey his final two holes on Friday morning to drop back into a tie for second and hand the 18-hole marquee to Lee.
“Yeah, I think last year play well [at] TPC [courses],” said Lee, who won his maiden PGA Tour title at TPC Craig Ranch.
“Yeah, I think very interesting, but like more comfortable and, I mean, yeah, I think better, so very happy for me, but, yeah, I like TPC courses.”
Joining Theegala in the second spot was a trio of players, including defending champion Brooks Koepka, who birdied his final hole to post 5-under 66.
Adam Hadwin anbd Harry Higgs were also in the T2 group.
Top-10 ranked headliners Jon Rahm, Justin Thomas, Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele were among a logjam of players tied for sixth on 4 under.
