3 Best Shots: Round 2, WM Phoenix Open

0

The second round of the WM Phoenix Open is in the books with Byeong Hun An and Brendan Steele tied for the lead at 10-under.

Rounding out the top-5 are Martin Laird, Matt Kuchar, Hideki Matsuyama and Sung Kang, who are at 9-under-par.

To wrap up the day, here are the best three shots.

Beef Birdies 18

After a sluggish first round of 2-over, Andrew “Beef” Johnston found himself needing a good second round to make the cut. “Beef” played his front nine in 1-under and needed to shoot 2-underneath on the back to make the cut on the number.

After a birdie at the 17th, “Beef” knew he needed to birdie the last… and he delivered!

Adam Hadwin’s Pitch-In At 17

After missing the cut at the Safeway Open, Hadwin has made 6 cuts in a row to start the year. Hadwin, who recently shot 59, has had three top-25 finishes this year and is enroute to another top-25 finish this week.

Currently sitting at 5-under, Hadwin had one of the shots of the day at the drivable par-4 17th. Hadwin’s pitch shot from short of the green had the perfect amount of speed and spin to find the back of the cup for an eagle.

Scott Piercy’s Near Ace

Scott Piercy couldn’t have picked a better time to hit one right at the flag. Piercy stepped up to the stadium par-3 16th and hit his tee shot to inches. It would have been absolutely nuts to see it drop, and to witness the crowd’s reaction.

Piercy is currently at 6-under after a sluggish even-par round of 71.

Here’s to hoping we see an ace tomorrow at the 16th!
