There was a photo we ran back at the beginning of the 2021 season, following Tony Finau‘s loss to Max Homa in a playoff at The Genesis Invitational.

After the heartbreaking defeat in Los Angeles, Jon Rahm was pictured consoling Finau at Riviera Country Club. The photo, taken from behind, was captured by PGA Tour photographer Keyur Khamar. It was one of the more memorable photos of the season that did not depict the thrill of victory.

Almost six months to the day (Feb. 21 to Aug. 23), this time on the east coast at season’s end, Khamar captured a perfect bookend photo of the two friends with the big Spaniard hugging his American rival after his playoff win at The Northern Trust.

The two friends are now 1-2 in the FedExCup standings, with Finau jumping into the first spot after his big win, while Rahm holds down the second position. They will also be paired together for the opening two rounds at this week’s BMW Championship.
