Starting on Ko Olina Golf Club’s back nine, Henderson scored early and often, carding two sets of back-to-back birdies in her first six holes (Nos. 10, 11, 14 and 15) to turn in 32. After a string of nine-straight pars, the 20-year old Canadian made two closing gains on Nos. 7 and 8 (her 16th and 17th) en route to a low-round 66 and a two-day score of 10-under par.

“I feel like I’m in a great spot obviously at the top,” said Henderson, who’s hit 24 of 36 greens through two rounds, despite the windy conditions.

“I feel like I’m hitting the ball really well and I can depend on my putting right now, which is a big key for me when I’m playing well.”

First-round leader Shanshan Feng (69) of China, and American Mo Martin (67) were tied for second at 8-under par.

Three more players were two further back at 6-under par, including ANA Inspiration champion Pernilla Lindberg (68) of Sweden, Korea’s Inbee Park (69), and American Lindy Duncan (68).

Defending champion Cristie Kerr struggled to a 3-over par 75 on Thursday, but made the weekend by a stroke at 2-over 146.

QUOTABLE

“I have to thank my putter for that, which is a really nice feeling. That’s kind of where I’ve struggled early this year when I haven’t played my best. I feel like really confident right now the way I’m putting it. I’m seeing the line, which is always nice as well.”
