In a Tour Championship press conference, Dustin Johnson was asked about the Ryder Cup and who he plays well with.
Johnson said, “I think I can play well with pretty much anyone. Except for Phil.”
His answer was brutally honest and seemed to have thrown off the media a bit. The room became very quiet with the exception of some scattered laughter from those not knowing it was serious.
Sky Sports has the interview in its entirety.
DJ clarified a bit saying, “We don’t partner well together, we play well against each other. I love Phil, we’re great friends, we just have a lot more fun playing against each other instead of as partners.”
Johnson and Mickelson were paired together in the 2010 Ryder Cup at Celtic Manor. The two lost both their matches 3&2. One would think a long hitter and a magician around the green would do well together.
It’ll be interesting to see who Captain Love pairs with the bomber when the American and European teams gather at Hazeltine National Golf Club next week. If a long game and a short game doesn’t work, let’s see him with fellow bomber JB Holmes!
