Charles Howell III carded a final-round 67 at Seaside Island Golf Club and then beat Patrick Rodgers in a playoff to claim his third career PGA Tour title at The RSM Classic.

Howell III finished his final day on the Seaside Course with two blemishes (one double and a bogey) alongside 10 pars and six birdies en route to a 19-under par.
In his fourth start of the 2018-19 season, the Georgia native earned $1,152,000 and 500 FedExCup points to jump to No. 1 in the early points standings.
Howell III also picked up 24 Official World Golf Rankings points and will move to 61st (from 84th).
Finally, the former can’t-miss kid from Oklahoma State earned a two-year Tour exemption along with a trip to Kapalua for the Sentry Tournament of Champions. He also earned a trip back to his hometown of Augusta, Georgia for the 2019 Masters Tournament – his first invite since the 2012 edition, as well as elite events such as the 2019 PLAYERS Championship and PGA Championship.
Runner-up Rodgers, meanwhile, set the final 36-hole PGA Tour scoring record (123) after weekend rounds of 61 and 62. The solo-second spot earned the former Stanford star a check for $691,200, along with 300 FedEx points and 14.4 OWGR points. He will move from 172nd to 142nd when Monday’s world rankings are released.
