Dustin Johnson finally broke through in L.A. and won the Genesis Open – a tournament where he’s been oh, so close – so many times. Johnson shot a final round 1-under 71 to finish at 17-under, and 5 comfortable shots clear of the field.
Scott Brown and Thomas Pieters tied for the runner-up spot at 12-under-par. While Wesley Bryan, Charley Hoffman, Kevin Na, and Justin Rose rounded out the top-5 – all tied at 11-under.
For the victory, DJ takes home 500 FedEx Cup points, and $1.26M in prize money – moving him to the 6th spot in the FedEx Cup race.
The win also moved DJ to the world #1 position, leapfrogging both Jason Day, who held the top spot for nearly a full calendar year, and Rory McIlroy, who moves from #2 to 3rd place.
