Rory McIlroy shot a final-round 70 to claim his first title of the 2019 PGA Tour Season at the PLAYERS Championship.
The 29-year old Northern Irishman finished his final day at TPC Sawgrass’ Stadium Course with two bogeys and a double, along with nine pars, and six birdies, highlighted by four clutch gains down the stretch on Nos. 11, 12, 15 and 16, en route to a 16-under par total, one clear of runner-up Jim Furyk.
It was McIlroy’s 15th career PGA Tour title, and first PLAYERS Championship.
For the win, the four-time major winner earned $2,250,000 and 600 FedExCup points, while also picking up 80 OWGR points. He will move to No. 1 in the FedExCup standings and No. 5 in the world rankings.
Runner-up Furyk earned $1,350,000 along with 330 FedExCup points, and 60 OWGR points.
