TV Rating for the PGA Tour continue to rise.
“Sunday’s final round of the PGA Tour Players Championship averaged a 2.8 rating and 4.59 million viewers on NBC, marking the largest non-major golf audience since the 2018 Tour Championship, Woods’ first victory in five years,” according to Sports Media Watch.
It was a 10% improvement over the final round of the 2019 edition when Rory McIlroy edged Jim Furyk for his first Players title.
Viewership peaked just as Justin Thomas was closing in on his maiden PLAYERS win, hitting nearly 7 million viewers during the 5:45-6 PM ET measurement.
Only three rounds of golf in 2020 averaged more TV viewers: the final round of the PGA Championship in August (5.15M), and the third and final rounds of the Masters in November (4.99M; 5.59M).
Overall, NBC’s Sunday broadcast of the PLAYERS finale ranked second among all sports, trailing only CBS’ NCAA Tournament Selection Show (5.46M).
