In Gee Chun struggled to a 3-over 75 on Sunday at Congressional Country Club but it was just enough to secure a one-shot victory at the 2022 KMPG Women’s PGA Championship.
The Korean edged co-runners-up Lexi Thompson and Minjee Lee (70).
Thompson, who’d been down 10 shots after the opening round, mounted a methodical three-day comeback, and held a two-shot lead over Chun with just five holes to play.
Then the wheels fell off. The American star finished: bogey, bogey, birdie, bogey, par. Thompson finished with a 73.
“Yesterday I said if game is going to be real easy, then I feel boring,” said Chun. “Absolutely, Lexi’s play was great. She gave me a lot of pressure.
“I play with all the big pressure until 18, so when I got the last putt on the 18th green, I tried to give myself talk. In Gee, you made a lot of distance putt, and then you control the pressure already, so you can make it.
“That’s what I did before I hit the putt.”
