The 2018 Ryder Cup will get underway tomorrow morning at Le Golf National near Paris, France with four (4) matches of fourball.
One of the U.S. fourball teams announced at the Opening Ceremonies are longtime friends Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth. The young American superstars will face off against England’s Paul Casey and Tyrrell Hatton.
Thomas was excited about playing with Spieth, and cited the duo’s familiarity with one another as an important aspect in team play.
“We obviously get along with each other really well. I think our games kind of match each other well and go well together,” said Thomas, who has accumulated the most PGA Tour victories (8) over a two-season stretch.
“Most importantly, we know each other’s personality, and I think that’s really important in team play.
“I know we are both chomping at the bit to get out there.”
Spieth concurred, and noted the uniqueness of a playing partner who’s been a longtime friend – and rival, going back to their junior golf days.
“We play a lot together. Very familiar with each other’s games. Have been for – shoot, over ten years now. So it’s going to be really exciting to be able to look at him on the first tee and kind of remember where we’ve come from, and we’re both here,” said Spieth, a three-time major winner.
“If either one of us — we know each other well enough that we can see if either one is tensing up or whatnot and be able to come over and know what to say to relax each other.”
