During Wednesday’s practice round at Quail Hollow, Justin Thomas chipped in to make a couple’s engagement a memorable one.
The world No. 2 played along and gave them his glove and ball, allowing the “dude” to get on his knee and propose with the cameras rolling.
Thomas explained that he received a DM on Instagram asking for his help in the surprise proposal. The idea was to have the cameras record with Thomas as the hook.
“Yeah, he sent me a direct message on Instagram and I just happened to be going through them one day and I read it. I said that sounds like a pretty cool thing and it would be fun to be a part of,” said Thomas.
“A big thing that I thought would have been great is the fact if I could have gotten the Tour involved and they would have had it all documented because if it’s just randomly in the middle of a day and there’s cameras everywhere, it’s going to be pretty obvious or awkward.
“Here we could have at least played it off that the cameras were for some reason there for me and she didn’t know any better. So it all worked out great and I’m really happy that I didn’t screw it up for him.”
