Kim, Webb Co-Lead in Scotland After 54 Holes

After another brutal day of rain and wind at Dundonald Links in Scotland, Sei Young Kim and Karrie Webb share the 54-hole lead at the Ladies Scottish Open.

“Very lucky to get in. It’s actually stopped raining but yeah, very happy with 2-under,” said Webb, who shot 70. “That back nine was definitely a struggle once it started raining.”

The co-leaders are at 6-under, and two shots up on 36-hole leader Cristie Kerr.

Webb, Kerr, and Kim were paired together in Saturday’s final group, and for the first 16 holes, it felt like the two veteran stars, Webb and Kerr, were in some kind of match play with young unassuming Kim along as the third wheel.

But as is usually the case, it was the slow and steady Kim, who, seemingly out of nowhere, turned on the jets on the last lap, with birdies on 17 and 18, to finish with a 69 and a share of the lead.

“I’ve never played before like in this weather. It was a really great experience, and to play with — it is rare to play with like veteran players, Cristie Kerr and then Karrie Webb,” said Kim. “They are really great players.”

Kerr, who finished her back-nine with two bogeys, posted a second-consecutive 1-over 73. Afterwards, she felt her play reflected better than her score, citing a couple of three-putts.

“I played a lot better than the score today. I had two 3-putts on the back which were kind of uncharacteristic. Just got to do better,” said Kerr, who is seeking win No. 2 on the season.

Two shots back of Kerr is Carlota Ciganda (70) and Sun Young Yoo (73), who are tied for fourth at 2-under.

The Scorecards

Quotable

“Well, if we are in threesomes, it will be the same group tomorrow. We all enjoyed each other’s company today. Our golf inspired each other, and hopefully it’s the same tomorrow.”
Karrie Webb, Round Three Co-Leader, Ladies Scottish Open

“Yeah, today is unfortunately really bad weather. Like blustery wind, very strong wind and raining. Yeah, I charged a good distance and hitting it good and I finish really good. I’m very happy with 3-under in this weather.”
Sei Young Kim, Round Three Co-Leader, Ladies Scottish Open
