Maximilian Kieffer bounced back from his tough playoff loss in Austria to share the day-one lead at the 2021 Gran Canaria Lopesan Open.

The German was tied on 7-under par 63, alongside Dane Joachim B. Hansen, Dutchman Joost Luiten and Robin Roussel of France.

Luiten produced the day’s fireworks with a hole-in-one on the par-3 15th hole, hitting a wedge from 140.

“It was a perfect number for me to hit a wedge,” said Luiten. “It’s tucked just over the bunker but you can use the slope, right to left, I pitched it on the slope with a bit of spin and it went in.

“It’s one of these bonus things that happens sometimes, it’s always nice to make a hole-in-one.”

English trio Richard Bland, Ben Evans and Matt Ford, Dutchman Wil Besseling, Spaniard Alejandro Del Rey, Scot Scott Jamieson and American Julian Suri were a shot off the lead.
