Nicolai von Dellingshausen carded a career-low 62 on Friday, and will enter the weekend holding a three-shot lead at the 2021 Tenerife Open.
The 28-year old German, who has played primarily on the European Challenge Tour, closed birdie-eagle at Golf Costa Adeje to secure the 36-hole marquee position on 16 under.
“I don’t know whether it’s the course but I’ve been working on staying in the present a lot more and that’s one of the biggest achievements – it means it doesn’t have anything to do with the course,” said von Dellingshausen.
“That’s what I took from the Sunday in Austria. I’m a thinker, so I like being more in the future or in the past, it’s a big challenge to stay in the present moment – I think I’ve done that a lot better the last two days.”
Alone in second was Spaniard Pep Angles, who fired a bogey-free 64, which featured birdies on Nos. 1, 4, 6, 9, 10, 13, and 18 to reach 13 under.
Angles countryman, Eduard Rousaud (66) was one further back on 12 under, alongside Australian Scott Hend (64), Finn Kalle Samooja (66), and Scotsman Scott Jamieson, who shot a course-record 61.
South African Dean Burmester (69), South Korea’s Yikeun Chang (64), American Sean Crocker (64) and Dane Thorbjorn Olesen (69), the overnight leader, were five shots off the pace on 11 under.
