Seamus Power shot a 64 on Friday and will enter the weekend at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am holding a five-shot lead.
The 34-year-old Irishman finished his second day at Pebble Beach with two bogeys offset by ten birdies, including six gains in a seven-hole stretch (Nos. 6-12).
“My wedge play was great,” said Power, when asked to cite the key to his round. “I hit, I had like three or four shots I hit very, very close and the way I’ve been putting, they were not gimmie birdie, but certainly ones you would expect to make and it just changes your whole complex of your round, of your score.
“So that was the most pleasing. To finish with a close one on 18 and I could pick up another shot there.”
Day-one leader Tom Hoge carded a 2-under 69 and sits T2 on 11-under par, alongside Adam Svensson (63) and Andrew Putnam (67).
Tournament headliner Patrick Cantlay (68) was among a trio of players tied for fifth on 10-under par.
One further back was Jason Day who chased a 68 with a 66 to headline a logjam of seven players at 9 under, and tied for eighth place.
Jordan Spieth was 11 shots off the pace after a second-round 70. The 2017 Pebble Beach champ sits T38 on 5 under.
