Scrapbook: 2017 Farmers Insurance Open

The 2017 Farmers Insurance Open is in the books with rookie Jon Rahm winning at 13-under par, thanks to a 7-under 65 final round – highlighted by a 60-foot eagle putt on the 18th hole.

A new feature we’ll be publishing here at Pro Golf Weekly is sort of a time capsule-scrapbook type post where we record all the tournament content, from start to finish – for look-back purposes.

With that, here’s our first scrapbook installment – the Farmers Insurance Open.

Preview

Tiger Hype

The main storyline was the return of Tiger Woods, or the Big Cat, as the cool kids like to throw around.

The Farmers Insurance Open Primer

Storylines included: Tiger’s return, Snedeker’s defense, and the season’s best full field to date.

5 Power Picks

We picked Phil Mickelson (T14 -7), Hideki Matsuyama (T33 -4), Dustin Johnson (MC), Jason Day (MC), and Jimmy Walker (MC). Not very good.

5 Sleeper Picks

Our sleeper picks were much better: Tony Finau (T4 -9), Brian Harman (T9 -8), Gary Woodland (T20 -6), Kevin Streelman (T67 +3), Andrew Beef Johnston (MC).

The Fantasy Suggestions

For the fantasy geeks our picks were a mixed bag, thanks to some bad performances by some big names.

The Weather FORE-cast

Sunny skies were predicted and they were spot on.

The Flag

The TV Views

The picturesque mountains along the coast of the Pacific Ocean were the money shots for the photographers and TV cameras.

Tee Box

The tee boxes at the Farmers were much more traditional than some of the new ones being rolled out in recent years.
