Stats Recap: Steele vs Leaders in 4 Statistical Categories

By now, we all know that Brendan Steele won the first event of the new PGA Tour season this past weekend in Napa Valley at the Safeway Open.

With his win at Silverado Country Club, Steele took home over $1M and 500 FedEx Cup points. The 33 year-old now leads the all-important Money List, and FedEx Cup race.

 
A new feature we’re publishing this season is to compare the tournament champion with the leader in each of the following 4 statistical categories: Driving Accuracy, Greens In Regulation, Scrambling, SG: Putts.

Let’s take a look at how Steele performed versus the leader in each of these categories.

Driving Accuracy

The leader in this category was John Huh who hit 69% of fairways. Steele wasn’t far off, however, landing in the Top 5 with a 64% rate.

Defending champion Emiliano Grillo topped the list in this category, making 15 pars on 17 missed greens for 88%. Steele missed 18 greens and made par on 14 of them, good for 78%.

SG: Putting

Patton Kizzire, who finished second, was the tournament leader with 9.706 stokes gained, while Steele finished in the sixth position with 6.545.
