On day three of the Valero Texas Open, Si Woo Kim produced a 3-under 69, and will enter Sunday’s finale at TPC San Antonio with a one-shot lead over Corey Conners.
The 23-year old Korean signed for a card comprised of one bogey (on No. 1) against four birdies, including a final-hole gain, to secure the 54-hole marquee position at 15-under par.
Conners, who carded a 6-under 66, finished his third round with two bogeys offset by eight birdies, highlighted by four over the first five holes (Nos. 1, 2, 3, and 5) to reach 14 under. The 27-year old Canadian will be paired with Kim in the final group on Sunday.
One further back was Charley Hoffman, who carded a low-round 64, which included a sizzling final five hole stretch of: birdie-par-birdie-birdie-eagle, en route to a three-day score of 13-under par.
Kyoung-Hoon Lee (69), Scott Brown (67), and Jhonattan Vegas (67) were T4 on 11 under par.
Tournament headliners Jordan Spieth and Rickie Fowler both struggled on Saturday with matching 73s which sent them tumbling 14 spots down the leaderboard, from a tie for second to T16.
On moving day, Spieth hit the gas pedal and traveled south quickly, carding a 6-over 42 on the out, which included a pair of bogeys and two doubles.
With nothing to lose, the 25-year old Texan played his final nine holes fearlessly, and it may have been his best stretch of the season. After pars on Nos. 10 and 11, Spieth finished his last seven holes with five birdies, including a hat trick to close it out.
Fowler’s poor form was more equitable. He went out in 1-over 37, and, came home to even-par 36, highlighted by a final-hole eagle.
