Vegas Odds: Moore, Koepka Co-Favorites at Shriners Open

0

The field in Las Vegas has a nice mix of big names and rising stars, highlighted by nine former major champions and seven players ranked inside the world’s Top 50.

Two of those highly ranked players are Brooks Koepka and Ryan Moore, both members of the winning U.S. Ryder Cup team. The former teammates are listed as co-favorites by Vegas Insider for the Shriners Open.

The 26-year-old Koepka followed up his 2015 breakout season with another superb season, finishing with seven Top 10s and ten Top 25s. In his first event of the new season Koepka struggled a bit at the WGC-HSBC, dropping a final round 78, and finishing T40. The former Florida State star has played the Shriners three previous times with mixed results – sandwiching a T4 (2015) between two Missed-Cuts (2014, 2016).

Moore, the 2012 Shriners Open champ, is playing some of the best golf of his career. The former U.S. Amateur winner won late in the season at the John Deere, and then remained white-hot during the FedEx Cup playoffs, going T7-T8-T64-2 in the four events. Moore’s clutch playoff performance forced Ryder Cup captain Davis Love III to select the former UNLV star as his final pick for the matches at Hazeltine.

Moore hasn’t cooled off much to start the new 2016-17 season, grabbing two Top 25s in the two events-entered (T17 CIMB, T23 WGC-HSBC).

Rounding out the Top 5, are Chris Kirk (T2 at Sanderson Farms), Francesco Molinari (T6 at WGC-HSBC), and rookie Jon Rahm (T15 at Safeway).
