This post from Titleist caught my eye this morning. It’s a photo of a 3-pack of Titleist golf balls from the 1940s. According to the #1 golf ball maker, back in the day, the balls were packed in ‘boats’, and wrapped in cellophane. Or as one commenter said, “Just like powdered donuts.”
As the years went by golf ball makers discovered that it was more effective to pack, distribute and display golf balls in more rigid box – hence what we have today.
Although, it was a gradual process as shown here and here. Additionally, the cardboard allowed for more branding opportunities as well (e.g. #1 ball in golf).
Speaking of which… Introducing Pro V1 Pinks!
