Winner’s Circle: Jon Rahm Claims Maiden Major at U.S. Open, Top

Jon Rahm carded a final-round 4-under 67, highlighted by lengthy birdies on Nos. 17 and 18 to claim his maiden major title at the U.S. Open.

The 26-year old Spaniard entered Sunday’s finale at Torrey Pines tied for sixth on 2-under par. He got off to a terrific start with birdies on the first two holes, and ended it in dramatic fashion with another set of back-to-back birdies to reach 6 under, one shot better than Louis Oosthuizen.

For his first major victory, Rahm earned $2,250,000 and 600 FedExCup points. He will move to No. 1 on the PGA Tour’s money list and 2 in the FedExCup standings. He also picked up 100 Official World Golf Ranking points and will move to No. 1.

For his second straight runner-up finish at a major, Oosthuizen earned $1,350,000 and 330 FedExCup points. He also secured 60 world-ranking points and will move to No. 12 from 18.
