Scottie Scheffler produced a final-round 67 and then edged Patrick Cantlay in a playoff to claim his maiden PGA Tour title at the 2022 WM Phoenix Open.
The 25-year-old Texan, who posted a tournament-low 62 on Saturday, overcame a brutal four-hole stretch of three bogeys (Nos. 5, 7 and 8) with four late birdies on 13, 14, 15 and 17 to post 67 and join Cantlay (67) at 16-under par.
Cantlay and Scheffler each made pars on the first two times playing 18, but on the third go-round, Scheffler dropped a 25-foot birdie putt, then watched as Cantlay’s putt of 11-feet slid by the cup.
For his first career PGA Tour win, Scheffler earned $1,476,000 and 500 FedExCup points. He will move to No. 3 on the money list and 4th in FedExCup standings. He also picked up 62 OWGR points and will move into the top 10 in the Official World Golf Rankings for the first time in his career.
