For the first time in his PGA Tour career, Rickie Fowler will not be part of the FedExCup playoffs.

The 32-year-old Californian chased a opening-round 71 with a 72 to finish 3-over par 143, six shots off the cut line of -3.

“Yeah, I wouldn’t say it was a little bit short,” said a frustrated Fowler. “It was a lot of bit short.

“Yeah, obviously very disappointing. Looking forward to getting back and getting some work in. If anything, just motivated at this point.

“Go take care of some good work over the next few weeks and get ready to get back after it.”

It was a season of many poor milestones for Fowler, including failing to qualify for both the Masters and PGA Championship. (He did receive a special invite into the PGA.)
