Hideki Matsuyama emerged as the leader after the second round of the 2025 Sentry Tournament of Champions, held at the Plantation Course at Kapalua in Maui, Hawaii.
Matsuyama shot a bogey-free round of 8-under 65, which brought his total to 16-under for the tournament. This score gave him a one-stroke lead over Collin Morikawa, who also shot a 65.
“You know, obviously the views are beautiful here,” said Matsuyama. “I haven’t played well here in awhile, so it’s good to get off to a good start here.”
He added: “I just have to believe that I’m in good shape and ready to go, so that’s where I’m at.”
Matsuyama’s performance was highlighted by his consistent play, with seven birdies in a 10-hole stretch, showcasing his mastery on a course known for its scoring opportunities.
The round saw Matsuyama in fine form, particularly with his iron play, setting up a dramatic duel with Morikawa over the weekend.
One further back was a foursome including Thomas Detry (65), Corey Conners (66), Maverick McNealy (64), and overnight leader Tom Hoge (68).
