Hideki Matsuyama took a commanding lead after the third round of the 2025 Sentry Tournament of Champions at Kapalua’s Plantation Course in Hawaii.
Matsuyama fired an 11-under 62, bringing his total score to 27-under for the tournament, establishing a new 54-hole scoring record at Kapalua.
“You know, it was a lot of fun, but I would like for him to take it easy tomorrow,” said Matsuyama.
The score gave Matsuyama a one-shot lead over Collin Morikawa, who matched Matsuyama’s 62 in the third round.
Matsuyama’s round was marked by his precision and consistency, headlined by 11 birdies without a single bogey. The 2021 Masters champion’s performance was particularly notable for his approach shots and putting, which were key in maintaining his lead.
This setup an exciting final round where Matsuyama would defend his lead against Morikawa, with both players showcasing exceptional golf in one of the most birdie-friendly courses on the PGA Tour.
