Tom Hoge took the lead after the first round of the 2025 Sentry Tournament of Champions at the Plantation Course at Kapalua in Maui, Hawaii, with a score of 9-under 64.
“Really didn’t have much for expectations coming in, because there wasn’t a whole lot of play or practice the last few months,” said Hoge. “But felt like I was putting really well coming into the week.
“Started right off the bat on 1 with a nice 15, 20-footer that I made.
“Made another one on 3.
“And then chipped in on 4. So kind of a nice way to ease into the round and kind of get things going.
Hoge’s performance put him one stroke ahead of Hideki Matsuyama and Will Zalatoris, who were both at 8-under. Corey Conners, Collin Morikawa and Cameron Young were one further back on 7 under.
The performance by Hoge was surprising to some, showcasing the unpredictable nature of golf at Kapalua where low scores are common but not guaranteed for any player.
Hoge’s round included a strong start and a solid finish, with his score being one of the highlights of the day, setting up an exciting chase for the rest of the tournament.
