Byeong Hun An produced a 67 on Sunday and then defeated fellow South Korean native Tom Kim (67) in a playoff to secure victory at the 2024 Genesis Championship.
An entered the final round tied with Kim at 12 under with four players only one back and three more just two off the lead. Early on, it was a birdie-fest by the top contenders with six players at one point or another holding the lead in some capacity at Jack Nicklaus Golf Club.
But with one hole to go, it came down to An and Kim, who held a one-stroke lead. Both Koreans were evenly matched on the par-5 finale from tee to green with each eventually landing their third shots to around eight feet and setting up good looks for birdie. An, who was away, applied the pressure by making his 8-footer to join Kim at 17 under.
Kim needed to sink a 7-footer to secure victory but lipped out and the two native Koreans headed for a playoff.
Playing the par-5 18th again in overtime, both hit high risk second shots and only An’s bet paid off. Kim’s third shot ended up in the grandstands, resulting in a bogey, while An made birdie to claim his second career DP World Tour victory and first since the 2015 BMW PGA Championship, more than nine years ago.

“It’s great, I’ve had a great season obviously, it’s been too long (to win) on the main Tour,” An said.
“All I tried to do is show some great golf in front of the home fans, it’s been a while since I’ve played in front of them.
“It feels amazing, it’s a bit of a shame that Tom had a bit of mess there, but it’s been a great tournament for me, I’ve really enjoyed it.
“There has been a lot of fans out there supporting me and Tom and I feel like we had a great battle today. I just got a little bit lucky to be a winner out there today I think.
“It’s a sweet ending for this year, it’s been a great year. This feels amazing, I’m going enjoy it for a while then I’ve got to get back on it.”
