Chesters Maintains Lead at Weather-Suspended Valderrama

Ashley Chesters didn’t hit a ball on Friday but will take a one-shot lead into the weekend at the Andalucia Valderrama Masters after a second day of rain suspended play.

After losing over four hours of playing time on Thursday, 60 players returned to complete their opening rounds on Friday and none matched Chesters’ first-round 66.

More inclement weather caused several stops and starts on Friday for round two, with play eventually suspended until Saturday morning.

Following his round on Thursday, Chesters said: “This is not a long-hitters’ course and I’m not one of those, so it does suit my game because you just put it into position off the tee and the greens are tight – the greens are great as well.”

After turning in 2 under, Marc Warren was T2 alongside Gregory Bourdy at 4-under par. Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano also got to 2 under through seven holes to move up to the T4 group, which included tournament host Sergio Garcia, at 3 under par.
