After a cold and windy day in Daly City, California, a logjam sits atop the leaderboard at the inaugural LPGA MEDIHEAL Championship, as five players finished their first day at Lake Merced Golf Club with scores of 68, including former world No. 1 Lydia Ko.

“Wind is probably the biggest factor on this golf course,” said Ko, a two-time winner at this course (LPGA Swinging Skirts Classic).

“It’s a golf course where nobody goes super low, so you just have to keep continuing to play solid and be patient out there and sometimes par is not a bad score.”

Caroline Hedwall, In-Kyung Kim, Jessica Korda and and Su Oh were also at 4-under 68. Of the leaders, only Oh signed for a bogey-free scorecard.

Lexi Thompson, Charley Hull, Sei Young Kim and Celine Herbin were one back at 3-under 69.

QUOTABLE

“Obviously the score says one thing and my hands say another. It was really cold out there today so it was good that I stuck to kind of my process, and I didn’t hit a ton of great shots but I always left myself in a good position.”
