“There are no conspiracies but there no coincidences.” I heard someone say that yesterday. I can’t recall where I heard it, but it was prophetic.
Just as I was finishing up a story on the PGA Tour’s new social media index, where I’d surmised that a player could win the big bonus simply by connecting with someone like Kim Kardashian: offer a golf lesson in exchange for an upload to her 216 million followers.
Coupled with the additional articles and shares it would garner, the player would essentially lock up the $8M bonus in one shot, which proves the program is ripe for gaming with marketing gimmicks.
Then, in a pure coincidence (I’m sure), I came across this story at Golf Monthly, with the lede: “Golf may have just got itself a new influencer in the form of one of the world’s biggest influencers – Kim Kardashian.”
From the article:
“The American, who boasts an incredible 216m Instagram followers, appears to have taken up the game of golf and showed us all her swing this weekend…
“Her friend Lala Anthony, who has 11.7m followers herself, filmed Kardashian hit a few iron shots with Kim clearly enjoying the second one where she celebrated and said “Hole-in-one!” afterwards.
“Golf is making huge strides in promoting the game to girls and women and Kim Kardashian’s new-found love for the game will surely inspire many girls and women to have a go at the game themselves.”

Apparently the entire Kardashian clan is ready to take up the game.
